Description:
Two postdoctoral positions in Advanced Drug Delivery are available at the world-class facilities of the WADDP at WITS Medical School, University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. Research at the Platform is focused on advancements in polymeric science, formulation stability and drug delivery design leading to versatile, biocompatible and biodegradable novel drug delivery systems for infectious diseases, metabolic diseases, neurological disorders, cancer and a myriad of other clinically-relevant conditions both in the Nothern and Southern hemispheres. Our drug delivery laboratories incorporates state-of-the-art equipment in the form of advanced imaging systems such as the Vevo2100, Cell Vizio and MARAN-iP, analytical systems such as UPLC and HPLC, characterization tools such as TM-DSC and ATR-FTIR, morphological assessment using SEM and Porosity Analyzer, physicomechanical testing using the NanoTensile tester, Rheometer and Texture Analyzer apart from tableting technology, coating and dissolution facilities.
A WADDP Research Group has been established to provide expertise toward development of nano-neuropharmaceuticals, cancer targeting, wafer technology, chronotherapeutics, once-daily-multi-unit, gastroretentive systems, donut shaped minitablets along with synthesis, blending, grafting, co-polymerization and characterization of novel biomaterials for drug delivery and tissue engineering applications.
The prospective candidate is expected to publish scientific findings in top tier peer-reviewed ISI journals and to assist in grant writing. In some cases postdoctoral fellows may have the opportunity to mentor junior researchers. The working atmosphere at the WADDP is highly interactive and collaborative, and we expect successful candidates to contribute to our intellectually open environment. There are extensive opportunities for collaboration within WITS, as well as with funding agencies and local and international academic laboratories.
