Requirements:

You will have, an excellent undergraduate degree in medicine or an allied subject in the field of medical sciences. Research experience gained through an MSc or other higher degree would be advantageous. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is a willingness to work flexibly and travel to collaborating Partners. It is expected that the successful applicant would register for an MD or MPhil.

You will work in the Institutes of Medical and Biological Engineering (iMBE) and Engineering Thermofluids, Surfaces and Interfaces (iETSI) within the School of Mechanical Engineering, University of Leeds.

Description:

This new, exciting research opportunity is being funded by the Marie Curie Initial Training Network - SpineFX which is focused on the biomechanics of spinal fracture. You will work in the Institutes of Medical and Biological Engineering (iMBE) and Engineering Thermofluids, Surfaces and Interfaces (iETSI) within the School of Mechanical Engineering, University of Leeds. An important aspect of the post is that you will collaborate with other partners within SpineFX as well as two other early stage researchers at the University of Leeds. As such you will be a member of a multidisciplinary team working on an exciting new project characterising the biomechanics of cement augmentation including both the properties of the delivery and the resulting augmented bone. The project involves the development and utilisation of surrogate models of different bone pathologies and fractures and well as extensive laboratory work characterising cements and the augmentation process. You will be expected to be attend a number of training events delivered by SpineFX partner organisations.
 
The ESR salary is fixed at €34,500 per year, plus allowances, which will be paid in Sterling using an appropriate conversion rate.
