Requirements:

Applicants should have, or expect to receive a first class or a second class (upper division) honours degree in any of the following disciplines: Molecular biology, Cell Biology, Biomedical sciences, Neuroscience or Dental Sciences.

Abstract:

Applications are invited for a full-time studentship available in the Institute for Postgraduate Dental Education.

Description:

The project is to identify a link between the infectious periodontal microbes with chronic neuro-inflammatory diseases. The project will involve intensive laboratory experiments using diseased tissues from both human and animal models at post mortem. The key methodologies are DNA profiling of microbes generally associated with periodontal disease from brain tissue. Other related techniques include cell biology, biochemical analyses, cell culture, histology and immunohistochemistry.
