ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
•Honours level 8 degree in Agricultural Science or other related discipline.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
•A relevant PhD and post-doctoral experience in grass-based research is highly desirable.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
•Deep knowledge of the principles of grass-based beef production research.
•Knowledge of grazing management and the factors affecting animal performance.
•Research skills: literature reviewing; design and statistical analysis of field and farm system experiments.
•Working knowledge of the Irish beef industry and national and EU policy and legislation affecting the sector.
•Writing skills: scientific (peer-reviewed journals), technical and popular.
•Excellent interpersonal skills and proficiency in communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, i.e. farmers, policy makers, advisors, researchers.
•Good organizational skills.
•An ability to manage people and resources.

Abstract:
To develop, lead and implement a research programme in the area of grass-based systems of beef production
Description:
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Develop and implement a research programme for grass-based beef production systems.
•Design and manage experiments and perform statistical analysis of experimental data.
•Manage staff and resources assigned to the research programme.
•Identify opportunities for cutting-edge research to address key knowledge gaps.
•Attract external funding with the objective of developing critical mass in the area by building and supervising a dynamic team of post-doctoral researchers(s) and post-graduate student(s).
•Develop and maintain active collaboration with the relevant national and international research communities.
•Working closely with Teagasc Knowledge Transfer Specialists/Advisors, including in the Teagasc BETTER farm beef programme, to ensure effective dissemination of research findings to advisers and stakeholders.
•Interpret and publish research results in prominent international scientific journals as well as technical and popular press, and present results at conferences and to stakeholders.
•Contribute to the teamwork and team-spirit in the beef research and knowledge transfer programme at the Animal & Grassland Research and Innovation Centre, and foster and add to further collaboration and integration.
•To actively contribute to the effective operation of the Animal & Grassland Research and Innovation Programme and Teagasc as required, including participation in the annual business planning and PMDS processes and complying with Teagasc policies and procedures.
•To take up additional duties as they may arise and be assigned by management.
