The ESRF is renewing its beamline portfolio. As part of this initiative the Structural Biology Group will create a new suite of state of the art beamlines for Macromolecular Crystallography (MASSIF). The facility will be built on ID30 and will comprise three beamlines, one with micro-focus capability. All beamlines will be equipped with automated sample changers and advanced sample evaluation instrumentation and software.

The mission comprises three main tasks:
• MASSIF system analysis,
• advanced sample tracking and data display protocols,
• development of an operations module. This includes the creation of data models, the development of use cases, database construction.
The mission will be considered as completed after the development of protocols ensuring that a group of samples can be tracked though the MASSIF pipeline with all relevant information stored, displayed and retrievable in a suitable fashion for both the users and operation managers. A transparent information exchange between external LIMS and beamline control software (MXCuBE) should also have been implemented.
