Requirements:
Those qualified for appointment as a senior lecturer, except in disciplines in the fine, applied or performing arts, are according to the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance, a person who has demonstrated teaching expertise and been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve. Ordinance (2010:1064).
The candidate will possess a Phd (or equivalent) within the discipline of Physical Geography or related field, with an emphasis on Geographic Information Systems and Science. The ideal candidate will demonstrate that they are a highly effective instructor with extensive teaching experience. Additionally, the candidate will be required to teach in both Swedish and English (see specification below).
An emphasis will be placed on the candidate’s ability to teach Geographic Information Systems/Science at the university level. The ability to communicate with, and inspire students to learn on their own is of great importance. A documented ability to collaborate with others in a departmental setting will be highly valued. The candidate will have either already secured pedagogical training in higher education, or in some other way demonstrate that they have equivalent training. Experience in supervising bachelor’s and master’s theses, as well as teaching classroom settings will be given consideration.
The candidate should have research experience within spatial analysis, and have contributed to the development of methods for geographic analysis, with an emphasis on Physical Geography. The candidate’s scientific background and interests should not only complement but bolster existing research competencies within the department. Relevant post-doctoral experience, the ability to conduct research projects, and experience in supervising Phd students will be considered.
The selection criteria are pedagogical and scientific excellence as well as the ability to collaborate with others. Particular weight will be placed on teaching experience, excellence, and active participation within the realm of Geographic Information Systems/Science. Criteria for scientific excellence include documented evidence of scientific productivity at the international level including contributions to new developments within the discipline. Other important selection criteria include the ability to take a broad view of the discipline as well as taking an interest in professional development and renewal.
It is expected that any non-Swedish speaking appointee within a three-year period will master the Swedish language well enough for allowing education of students at ground level and communication with the University administrative systems.
The assessment criteria for appointment as a senior lecturer, according to the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance, shall be the degree of the expertise required as a qualification for employment. As much attention shall be given to the assessment of teaching expertise as to the assessment of other qualifying criteria laid down in the first paragraph above. Each higher education institution determines itself what assessment criteria are otherwise to apply to the appointment of a senior lecturer. Ordinance (2010:1064).
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for teaching positions are given in Lund University Teacher Appointment Regulations and in Lund University’s Strategic Plan.

The person who fills this position will contribute to teaching and learning activities in both classroom and distance settings at undergraduate and master’s levels, primarily within the discipline of Geographic Information Systems/Science. The candidate may also be called upon to teach at the Phd level as well as contribute to other courses within the broad discipline of Physical Geography.
The position also includes research and supervision of Phd students within Physical Geography with an emphasis on Geographic Information Systems/Science. The candidate will be expected to develop and fund
their own research program as well as establish their own research group within the department.
The activities related to the position may change over time.
