Requirements:
• university degree in the field of natural sciences with a specialization in water management and/or environmental policy making or a degree in policy sciences with a specialization in water or environmental science;
• at least 5 years experience in research and/or capacity building projects related to water and the environment;
• affinity to, but preferably working experience in, developing countries;
• ability to combine academic and practical experiences for capacity building and research applications;
• experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment;
• good communication, inter-personal and organizational skills;
• good command of both spoken and written English;
• willingness to travel frequently and to work abroad for short and long term assignments;
• teaching experience at the postgraduate level
Abstract:
The Department of Environmental Resources (ER) of UNESCO-IHE provides post-graduate education and training to professionals in the field of environmental science, carries out research in this area and supports in the building of environmental knowledge centers in the developing world. The department has three core groups: Freshwater Ecosystems, Environmental Policy and Management and Pollution Prevention and Control. Within the Environmental Policy and Management core the department wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Environmental Policy.

The UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education offers post-graduate education in Delft, The Netherlands, and carries out research and capacity building projects all over the world. The mission of UNESCO-IHE is to contribute to the education and training of professionals and to build the capacity of sector organisations, knowledge centres and other institutions active in the fields of water, the environment and infrastructure in developing countries and countries in transition.

Responsibilities
The candidate is responsible for (supporting) the continued development and integration of environmental policy aspects in the activities of the Environmental Policy and Management core, mainly through education, projects and research within the international field and context of operation of UNESCO-IHE. Fields of interests and abilities: integrated river basin management, policy making, environmental impacts, compliance and enforcement, and stakeholder participation. Both qualitative and quantitative research interests should be covered. More specifically the position entails:
• to develop and deliver content for postgraduate education in the field of environmental policy (including distance learning);
• to contribute to scientific research proposals, execute scientific research and supervise MSc research projects.
Preference is given to candidates with both academic and practical experience, who are able to integrate water management experiences into the wider context of environmental policy making.
