The Behavioural Science Institute (BSI) Graduate School offers talented Master’s students the opportunity to write a research project proposal in the domain of Behavioural Science.
Description:
The Behavioural Science Institute (BSI) Graduate School offers talented Master’s students the opportunity to write a research project proposal in the domain of Behavioural Science. The proposal should fit within one of the following themes:
How do social factors affect learning in typical and/or atypical populations?
Social development and stress: Links with emotion regulation, social adjustment, and health.
Stress, learning and performance in work and sports: the role of individual and contextual factors (e.g. motivation, social influences, music).
The role of stress and hormones in behavioural inhibition and motivated action.
There will be funding available for four PhD student positions (one per theme) at the BSI Graduate School as of September 2011. You may apply for one or two themes.
Applications must include:
1) A letter of motivation of no more than 1 page
2) A project proposal (500 words max.) including a description of:
a. the research question
b. the methodology
c. the innovative nature of the project
d. how the project fits within the BSI’s mission
3) A curriculum vitae including all grades obtained for the BSc degree and MSc degree
Complete applications will be assessed by a Reviewing Committee, consisting of the chair of the BSI science committee and four other senior staff members of the BSI. Selected candidates will be invited to an interview, in which they will be asked to give a brief presentation of their research proposal.
You will be appointed as a PhD student (1 fte) for a total of 4 years. Your performance will be evaluated after 18 months. If the evaluation is positive, the contract will be extended by 2.5 years. As part of the contract, you will participate in educational activities (i.e. teaching students, which will take up approximately 10% of your work time).
You will be ranked in the Dutch university job-ranking system (UFO) as a PhD student (promovendus).
The starting salary is €2,042 per month on a full-time basis; the salary will increase to €2,612 per month in the fourth year.
