Abstract:

We currently have an open PhD scholarship to research "the fixation of nutrient elements in digestate (FixNut)”. Digestate is a residual product of biogas production. This research project aims to assess the potential of digestate for use as organic fertilizer in agriculture and horticulture. The project is funded by the Norwegian Research Council and several partners in industry.

Description:

The main research theme is the development and improvement of treatment technology to separate the fixed and suspended organic material in digestate. Although often abundant in digestate Phosphorus is organically bound in a form which is not available to plants. A goal of the project will be to assess methods for liberating Phosphorus (and other plant nutrients) in a form which can be used as plant available P in organic fertilizer products. The candidate will focus on the function and use of flocculators, assessing their influence and impact on the separation process and how this in turn impacts the abundance of plant available P. The candidate will be one of two students involved in the project and will work closely with both national and international industrial partners.

The candidate will join a research team at Bioforsk in the department of soil and Environment in Ås.
