Abstract:

The Urbanization and Global Change Group at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies invites applications for a Post-DoctoralAssociate for research related to urban land change modeling, forecasting, and spatial analysis

Description:

The aim of this project is to quantify and understand the growth of urban clusters in India and China. The postdoc will work with geographers, economists, political scientists, architects, historians, and remote sensing specialists to develop models and test hypotheses on factors that drive the growth of urban clusters and the types of land conversion within them in China and India. The postdoc will develop national and regional econometric models of urban cluster growth and explicitly evaluate the role of policy. Knowledge of advanced econometric and regression techniques is required. In particular, we seek candidates who have worked with multilevel models, time series analysis with hierarchically structured data and panel data models. An understanding of the extension of the above models to spatial analysis is highly desired. Preference will be given to candidates with an understanding of the economic and political reforms in either India or China. The postdoc is expected to write papers documenting research results, present results at meetings, help write research proposals, and participate in various working groups involving the broader scientific community. This is a two-year position with the possibility of a third year based on performance, funding, and operational need. Salary: $45,000
