Abstract:

A postdoctoral research scientist is required to work at Broom's Barn, the Rothamsted Research department of Applied Crop Sciences, on a project funded by the British Beet Research Organisation

Description:

The project will investigate bolting mechanisms in sugar beet and will be primarily focused on understanding the molecular genetic basis of vernalisation and devernalisation responses.
The project combines lab and field based studies to identify major genes influencing the bolting and flowering behaviour of sugar beet crops. The group at Broom's Barn works in close partnership with farmers, multinational breeders and processors with the goal of finding breeding targets able to expand the range and scope of sugar beet crop cultivation and application for industrial bio-processing.
The post is initially funded until 31 March 2014 in the first instance. The appointment will be at the Band D-PD level, which has a normal starting salary of £26,610 to £29,566.
