Requirements:
Applicants must hold a master’s degree in musicology, ethnomusicology, music performance or other qualifications that the Faculty of Fine Arts accredits as substantially equivalent in terms of scope, level and content. Applicants will be assessed on the basis of their education, professional, artistic, and scientific works, as well as the project description that is submitted with the application.

Description:
The University of Agder invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term appointment as PhD research fellow in popular music for a period of three years, at the Department of Music, Faculty of Fine Arts, Kristiansand, Norway.
We are looking for a PhD fellow in popular music research, with an emphasis on the interdisciplinary field of popular music studies.
The position will focus on the development of the appointee’s music performance practice and artistic creativity. The fellowship will entail academic research and development and involve the production of a PhD dissertation, but may also involve other forms of documentation.
Our concept of “musicology” opens for interdisciplinary approaches including theoretical and methodological concepts from fields such as sociology, cultural theory, social anthropology, and media studies. Research topics can fall within the fields of music technology, film music, multi-media, gender studies, ethnomusicology and cultural history.
The Department of Music has a good track record in supervising performance-based research within the wider field of musicology, including ethnomusicology, jazz studies, and popular musicology. Currently, the Department employs nine professors and three associate professors and has an excellent international network.

The successful applicant must be admitted on to the PhD Programme in Popular Music Performance within six months of appointment, and will be expected to complete the doctoral dissertation within the three year period of employment.
The position is remunerated according to the State salary scale, salary plan 17.515, code 1017, salary grade 48 (NOK 383 900). A 2 % compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
