Postdoc/PhD: Theory of Granular Materials
Organization: Institute for Multiscale Simulation at the Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg
Location: Nürnberg, Germany
Field: Physics
Requirements:
The succesful candidate should hold a PhD or M.Sc. (or equivalent) in physics or related field with a strong background in statistical mechanics, be open minded, and have a healthy team spirit
Abstract:
The Chair “Multiscale Simulation” of the Cluster of Excellence EAM at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuernberg has an open position for a postdoc or PhD to conduct theoretical research on the kinetic theory of granular gases, and study the “Granular Continuum Transition Regime”.
Description:
Granular materials are ubiquitous in nature and of utmost importance in industry. Kinetic theory have been successfully employed to produce hydrodynamic descriptions of the highly fluidized phase of granular materials, referred to as “granular gas”. The goal of the proposed project is to produce a continuum description of the granular “continuum transition regime”, where standard hydrodynamic descriptions are not expected to be valid, and apply these to specific systems. Interaction with numericists is expected.
The position is offered for two years (or until graduation for a PhD).
Salary depends on previous experience and employment, according to the German bracket “TV-L E13”.
