Requirements:

The professorship is responsible for teaching and research in the field of hydropower engineering with particular emphasis on the design of hydropower structures and planning of hydropower. Applicants need to document knowledge of current methods of computation and analysis of technical-economic planning and design of hydro power plants.
In addition to documented research and teaching experience related to Norwegian and/or international hydro power technology, emphasis will also be set on engineering experience in the planning and as well as construction of hydropower plants.

The successful applicant for a Professorship must be able to document his/her extensive disciplinary qualifications in important fields within the discipline. His/her individual work must document scientific expertise in one or more parts of the discipline, particularly the specialist fields the professorship has specific responsibility for. Weight will be placed on the ability to supervise and initiate research and development work.

Abstract:

For administrative purposes the Professorship will be part of the Department of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology, at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). At present the Department has 15 members of the scientific staff and 20 research positions (incl. PhD candidates). The Department has responsibility for the following disciplines: Hydraulic, Water and Wastewater, Waste and Industrial Ecology.

Description:

Pedagogical skills are important. The evaluation of the candidate will be based on documented pedagogical material, including pedagogical education/training, the presentation of academic work, experience from supervising master-level students and doctoral candidates, and teaching as well as other pedagogical matters. The evaluation will consider both the quality and scope.

Academic staff who are employed without having a formal pedagogical qualification in university-level teaching and are unable to document equivalent qualifications, are required to follow an introductory one-day course in university-level teaching. The applicants that have been short-listed will be invited for interviews and a demonstration of their pedagogical ability, usually in the form of a trial lecture.

The Professor is to be jointly responsible for disciplinary matters together with other academic staff in the department. The Professor is required to participate in teaching activities in accordance with the relevant curriculum and assist in further developing the teaching programme, research fellows and doctoral candidates in his/her discipline. The professor is obligated to follow the regulations that concern changes and developments within and/or the organizational changes conserning activities at the university.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants.

The position as Professor is remunerated according wage levels 67 to 98 on the Norwegian State salary scale, with gross salary from NOK 538 700 to NOK 1 106 200per annum. The position as Associate Professor is remunerated according to wage level 57 - 76 on the Norwegian State salary scale, with gross salary form NOK 448 200 - 643 500. There will be a 2 % deduction to The Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund from gross salary.
