Research Scientist in Bioinformatics; Statistical Genetics

Organization: deCODE genetics

Location: Reykjavík, Island

Field: Biology

Requirements:

PhD or equivalent in Biological Sciences or Mathematics;
Scientists with interests in cancer genomics are encouraged to apply;
ENGLISH: excellent

Abstract:

deCODE genetics has an opening for a Bioinformatician/Statistician to work on an EC-funded project, NextGene, which is conducted in collaboration with partners at the University of Arhus, Denmark. Next-generation disease mapping calls for methods that can handle complete genetic information and relate it to complex biological information on the disease phenotypes. In NextGene, research will be done on new methods that can find more variants contributing to disease by explicitly modelling their interaction and combine the statistical signal contributed by several rare variants.

The successful applicants will work in the Department of Informatics in deCODE’s headquarters in Reykjavik, Iceland. Our international team includes medical doctors, biologists, statisticians and bioinformaticians and has access to state of the art facilities. deCODE genetics is a biopharmaceutical company applying its discoveries in human genetics to develop drugs and diagnostics for common diseases. deCODE is a global leader in gene discovery - its population approach and resources have led to the isolation of key genes contributing to major public health challenges from cardiovascular disease to cancer. deCODE carries out its genetics studies in Iceland in its Reykjavik facility, a recently constructed building of 50,000 square feet, housing around 150 employees and large research infrastructures, enabling high throughput genotyping and data handling and analysis.

deCODE genetics offers an exciting opportunity for career development in a rapidly advancing field. Candidates will work on multiple, collaborative projects with links to research institutions and universities in Europe and the US. The initial appointment will be for two years with a possibility of renewal.
