The School of Architecture, Planning & Landscape is seeking to appoint a Research Associate to work on the European Union Framework Program 7 'Security' Theme Project, 'Security Impact Assessment Measures' (SIAM) with Prof. Stephen Graham and Visiting Fellow, Dr David Murakami Wood.

Description:

The School of Architecture, Planning & Landscape is seeking to appoint a Research Associate to work on the European Union Framework Program 7 'Security' Theme Project, 'Security Impact Assessment Measures' (SIAM) with Prof. Stephen Graham and Visiting Fellow, Dr David Murakami Wood. The overall aim of the project is to work with urban security managers to develop methods for assessing the social and individual impacts of new urban security and surveillance technology proposals and producing a new ethical framework, which can be understood and implemented by EU policy-maker.
The UK case-study will be overseen by the Global Urban Research Unit, in Newcastle University's School  of Architecture, Planning and Landscape. Officially managed by Professor Stephen Graham (see http://www.ncl.ac.uk/apl/staff/profile/steve.graham), the Research Associate will also work closely with Visiting Fellow of GURU and Canada Research Chair in Surveillance Studies at Queen's University, Ontario, Dr David Murakami Wood (see: http://www.queensu.ca/sociology/?q=people/faculty/david-murakami-wood)
Although the post will be based in Newcastle, frequent and significant travel in the UK and the wider EU, will be required for both the SIAM meetings, the case-study research, and conference / seminar attendence.
