Requirements:

The desired applicant must:

—Hold, or be close to completing, a doctoral degree in computer science; bioinformatics; computational, mathematical, or systems biology; or other quantitative science (mathematics, physics, or engineering)
—Be proficient in Unix, a high-level programming language such as Python, and ideally a statistical computing environment such as SAS or R
—Be comfortable applying and developing fast new algorithms to gigabyte-scale datasets
—Be self-directed, with excellent organizational skills
—Work well with multidisciplinary teams, which includes the ability to formuate, coordinate, and execute complex work plans
—Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
—Be able to manage multiple complex tasks and change priorities rapidly, when necessary

In addition, the ideal applicant should have some experience with:

—Mathematical modeling
—Relational databases (e.g. SQL)
—Graphics/visualization packages (e.g. R)
—HTML and web servers
—Network theory, combinatorics, and other areas of discrete mathematics

and should have a passion for finding elegant-but-practical solutions to complex, important problems.

Description:

The Harvard Medical School-affiliated Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is seeking a highly talented, creative, and motivated full-time computational postdoctoral fellow.
The ideal candidate must have a passion for tackling important problems at the interface between high-throughput biology and cutting-edge medicine using innovative data-intensive methods. The ideal candidate will be expected to successfully navigate diverse data types, from next-generation sequencing to hospital-wide records, and to apply and develop models and algorithms for building tools and testing hypotheses on gigabyte-scale datasets.
This is a unique opportunity to work on key challenges at the interface of biology, the information sciences, and clinical medicine at one of the world’s premier academic institutions.
