Requirements:

You have a PhD in Computer Science coupled with research experience in Computer Science, Software Architecture or Electrical Engineering. You have probably worked in an industrial setting with Software Development, ideally with a focus on Software Product Line Architectures and safety-critical applications. With your broad background in IT and Software you are equipped with a strong interest and willingness to quickly acquire in-depth knowledge of new technologies and application domains. In this role your analytical mind, curiosity and communication skills are of crucial importance. You are fluent in English, written and spoken alike, and you have the ability to get your messages across effectively – be it to senior management, external partners or the academic community. You are also able to engage in customers, understand their needs and use this knowledge to invent user-friendly software solutions.

Abstract:

Our Corporate Research Centre in Västerås, Sweden, is a part of ABB’s world spanning network of research centres in seven countries – China, Germany, India, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States. In Västerås, we develop new materials for electrical insulation, magnetics and conduction. We are pioneering advanced concepts for power apparatus and electrical machines. And also advance power electronics to new performance limits. Other core areas are power systems, insulation systems and technologies critical for advanced manufacturing.

As Researcher in Applied Software Architecture, your primary responsibility will be to run technology pre-studies to provide our business units with the facts they need to make informed decisions. You will also be part of technology development that delivers technical solutions, which will form part of future products. As Researcher you will also be involved in creating technology roadmaps and will also scan for new opportunities to differentiate. In addition you will have to make assertions about technology directions and determine their consequences for the technical strategy and customer impact.

As a part of ABB Corporate Research you will work in dynamic, motivated and creative teams with a wide range of experience and competence with access to highly advanced laboratory facilities. Our teams are often internationally composed and we encourage job rotation as a way to develop personal competence and to learn how to work in different cultures.
