Requirements:

We are seeking to appoint a person with an MSc in Epidemiology or a closely related subject and with experience of academic research, preferably in the field of infectious diseases. The appointee will be responsible for coordinating the data flow in the project, liaising with virology laboratories to collect gene sequences and processing the sequences using various packages, as well as matching clinical identifiers to other databases. In addition, the appointee will develop and lead scientific analyses once knowledge in the subject area has been acquired.

The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:

•good organisational and communication skills
•experience of working with large, complex datasets
•aptitude for manipulating electronic data
•able to write coherent and cogent scientific reports
•critical scientific thinking

The MRC Clinical Trials Unit undertakes national and international studies to assess the value of medical interventions in a variety of disease areas including cancer, HIV and other diseases such as osteoarthritis, diabetes and TB.

30,124 - £42,264  per annum (pro rata) - depending on experience per annum inclusive of location allowances depending on experience
The MRC Clinical Trials Unit undertakes national and international studies to assess the value of medical interventions in a variety of disease areas including cancer, HIV and other diseases such as osteoarthritis, diabetes and TB.
The UK HIV Drug Resistance Database (www.hivrdb.org) is a central repository for genotypic resistance tests performed as part of routine clinical care throughout the UK. Coordinated by the MRC Clinical Trials Unit, over 60,000 test results have been received and collated, including extensive linkage to clinical and surveillance databases in the UK. An important aspect of the project is the surveillance of drug resistance in collaboration with the Health Protection Agency.
 
The post will be for 3 years in the first instance with the possibility of extension.
