Organization: Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR), Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Location: Beijing,China

Field: Geographic Sciences

Requirements:

The successful applicants for all the three positions are expected to work in an interdisciplinary group with plant ecologists, soil scientists, ecosystem modelers and atmospheric scientists. Mentoring graduate students and publishing high quality papers are also expected for the positions. The positions are funded for three years (renewable on annual base) with competitive salary (commensurate with experience). The IGSNRR, located in Beijing, is a leading institution on ecosystem and climate change science in China. The working language is English though speaking Chinese is a plus.

Abstract:

Plant Ecophysiology/Biodiversity Modeling/Remote sensing and GIS: Three postdoctoral scholar positions are immediately available at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR), Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Description:

Plant Ecophysiology/Biodiversity Modeling/Remote sensing and GIS: Three postdoctoral scholar positions are immediately available at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR), Chinese Academy of Sciences. We are seeking highly-motivated individuals to join our research team at IGSNRR in investigating ecosystem carbon cycling, biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation, and coupling remote sensing and ground-based measurements with process-based ecosystem models through data-model fusion techniques.
The successful applicant for the first position will investigate the spatial dynamics of physiological features of dominant tree species in Sichuan Province, southwestern China, by measuring leaf level gas exchanges during the summer of 2011 followed by lab analyses on leaf chemistry. Experience with the Licor-6400 portable photosynthesis system is preferred.

The second position focuses on modeling biodiversity under climate change. Candidates should have strong backgrounds in biodiversity conservation and natural reserve management. Experience with ecosystem service accounting and/or with bioclimate models, process-based biodiversity models and habitat models is a plus.
The third position will focus on the application of remote sensing and GIS to carbon and biodiversity management at landscape and regional scales by coupling with biodiversity and ecosystem models. Experience with MODIS products and light-use efficiency models is preferred.
