We are seeking applications for the above studentship from suitably qualified graduates [1st honours or high 2.1 honours] with a background in life sciences and a broad knowledge of molecular biology. The research will be conducted in the state of the art molecular pathology research facilities at St James’s Hospital [Institute of Molecular Medicine] and the Coombe Women and Infant’s University Hospital.

Description:

Applications are invited from a highly motivated candidate for a PhD Studentship in the Departments of Histopathology and Obstetrics and Gynaecology, at Trinity College, Dublin, in Ireland. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will work closely with the ovarian cancer biology group which forms part of the DISCOVARY consortium, a consortium composed of researchers from several Irish institutions dedicated to carrying out world-class research in the area of ovarian and endometrial cancer. DISCOVARY’s central goal is to “To understand ovarian and endometrial cancer, to develop new methods for early detection and design novel treatment options. The position is funded by the Royal City of Dublin Hospital Trust Fund.

The project aims to identify novel miRNAs or isoforms of existing miRNAs using 2nd generation sequencing which are associated with the development of chemoresistance in ovarian cancer and to translate this into clinical specimens.
