Requirements:
Candidates should have a good undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering. In addition the candidate is expected to be well acquainted with data capturing and processing methods as well as intelligent methods used for electric drives diagnostics.
To be eligible, the candidate must have no PhD and less than 4 years' research experience at the time of selection. Applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work or studies) in Poland for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the starting date.

Description:
The job involves:
1. Data capturing, conditioning and analysis using advanced signal processing methods for the determination of feature relationships for the purpose of diagnostics of electrical/mechanical interactions.
2. Diagnostic algorithm development for the assessment of machinery with industrial electric drives.
The objectives of the ENERGY-SMARTOPS ITN are to address the integrated control and operation of processes, rotating machinery and electrical equipment to achieve energy savings through equipment management, automation, and optimization.
The research program for this post will be carried out in the Institute of Electromechanical Conversion of Energy in Cracow University of Technology, Poland. The Initial Training Network has nine partners both from industry and academia across Europe. The person appointed will be seconded to ABB Corporate Research in Crakow and ABB Strategic R&D for Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals in Oslo, Norway, to carry out parts of the research and enhance the training element of the post.
The tasks of the post will be to explore research ideas and concepts in the area of diagnostic signal acquisition and algorithm development. The successful candidate will also work on case studies with the employing partner and with other consortium partners. Activities include:
• Selection of an electromechanical object and preparation for data capturing;
• Application of data conditioning and processing techniques;
• Review/selection of methods for the object data acquisition;
• Determining of characteristic signal features for characterising specific object states;
• Comparison of the effectiveness of the methods for assessing the characteristic features of the object;
• Application of selected intelligent methods (neural network, fuzzy logic, pattern recognition);
• Determining the most effective method for assessing the condition of an electric drive;
• Undertaking experiments for verifying results of the prepared model;
• Creating documentation and application notes;
• Managing the above activities and reporting progress at review meetings;
• Submission of at least one paper summarising research findings for publication in journals and conferences;
The successful candidate will also work on case studies with the employing partner and with other consortium partners. The successful applicant will be expected to enrol for a PhD degree during the period of employment.

This program offers a three year full-time position as researcher with a salary and allowances according to EU regulations for Marie Curie ITN Early Stage Researchers. ESRs in an ITN also undertake a comprehensive personalised development programme with targeted training measures and participate in a range of network events with the nine consortium partners.
