Abstract:
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is one of the world’s largest and most respected centres for scientific research. Its business is fundamental physics, finding out what the Universe is made of and how it works. At CERN, the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments are used to study the basic constituents of matter — the fundamental particles. By studying what happens when these particles collide, physicists learn about the laws of Nature.
Description:
You will participate in exploitation of the RF systems of the SPS and LHC accelerators. You will analyze present performance and future requirements and assist in the specification and implementation of upgrades. Major upgrades planned or envisaged make extensive use of superconducting RF technology. Your activities will extend into other studies and developments for the future CERN accelerator program.
As an active member of the Beams and RF section, you will:
* Study the different performance limitations related to the superconducting RF system in the LHC as operation moves to nominal and subsequently to higher intensity beams.
* Analyze longitudinal beam behaviour and stability in the SPS and in the LHC.
* Carry out beam studies and RF design work related to the LHC High-Luminosity upgrade project (HL-LHC), in particular on new superconducting RF deflecting cavities for the experimental regions.
* Assist in the specification of new of superconducting and conventional RF systems for LHC and for the upgrade of the accelerator chain in the injector complex.
* Participate in the testing of a prototype superconducting RF cryomodule for a high intensity proton linear accelerator
