Description:

Two Research Assistants are required to join the Diabetes and Nutritional Sciences Division, School of Medicine at King’s College London (Waterloo campus), working on a 7-month project funded by the Californian Dried Plum Board.
The project aims to investigate the effect of prune supplementation on gastrointestinal function, including output, transit time and fermentation. The study will be a large randomised controlled trial of prune supplementation in healthy people. Outcome measures will include stool output, transit time and gastrointestinal fermentation, and therefore this provides an exciting opportunity for gaining experience in subject recruitment, clinical trials and laboratory studies.
The post holders will work as part of a team of three researchers (2 research assistants, 1 PhD student) in conjunction with the Principle Investigator (Dr Kevin Whelan). The post will mostly involve the efficient organisation and recruitment of volunteers to a clinical trial, as well as clinical sample collection and processing, as well as other data collection. This fixed term post is an ideal opportunity for the development of research experience in human clinical trials.

The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications and experience, within the Grade 5 scale, currently £28,177 to £29,751 per annum, inclusive of £2,323 London Allowance, per annum.
