Requirements:
Applicants must have completed their master’s degree in the actual subject area at the time of application. Applicants must meet the formal requirements for admission to the Ph.D. programme at the University of Bergen. The University requires a minimum 5-years degree (300 ects) including the master degree (two years).
The successful applicants will be expected to relocate to the University of Bergen, and conform to the regulations that apply to the position.
Abstract:
At the Department of Linguistic, Literary and Aesthetic Studies a Ph.D. position is available from 1 August 2011. The position is connected to the research project The Works of Ludvig Holberg (Ludvig Holbergs skrifter).
Description:
The applicant is asked to include information about his or her academic qualifications as well as research interests that are relevant to the project's scholarly foci on Holberg's historical writing and his other non-fictional works in morality and philosophy. If accepted, the PhD candidate will be expected to work out a concrete research project in co-operation with the Director of the Holberg project in Bergen. Areas of interest are Holbergs's history writing in light of the European tradition, as well as analyses of content and methodology. Furthermore, familiarity with scholarly editing and commentary will be of importance to the project. The project as a whole stresses research-cooperation, participation in project seminars and other related arrangements. The PhD candidate is encouraged to spend time with the co-project in Copenhagen.
Appointment to a PhD position is normally for a period of four years. The PhD candidate must take part in the University's doctoral program and conduct his/her own research within a time frame of three years, while the fourth year is set aside for project purposes.

If these formal requirements are neglected, the application will not be considered.
The salary will be paid in accordance with grade 48 (code 1017/20.8) of the State Salary Scale (currently NOK 383.700, - gross p.a. following ordinary meriting regulations). A compulsory 2% contribution to the State Pension Fund (Statens Pensjonskasse) will be deducted from gross salary.
