Abstract:
Two Early Stage Researcher (ESR) positions are available at the National Center for Scientific Research "DEMOKRITOS", Institute of Information and Communication. Those positions are funded by the European Commission under the Marie Curie Initial Training Network Programme (project GREENET).
Description:
RESEARCH TOPIC :
POSITION: DEM_1
ESR will pursue research on green radio networks. In particular, the ESR will work on the design and evaluation of energy efficient Network Coding schemes, including the study of their impact in short-rang cooperative environments.
POSITION: DEM_2
ESR will pursue research on green radio networks. In particular, the ESR will work in the area of energy-aware Vertical Handover Operations for cognitive networks, also taking into account effects arising from the possible availability of short-range cooperative environments
These are the challenging research goals to be undertaken by the recruited ESRs.
Junior researchers with an MSc, which gives access to a PhD program in Greece, in telecommunications, electrical engineering, computer science, or related fields, capacity of carrying out innovative research, are highly encouraged to apply for these positions.
The candidates must have experience network management, energy consumption in wireless networks and/or Network Coding. Applicants should also have a solid background in some of the following fields: wireless communication theory, network information theory, optimization theory, and coding theory. Knowledge on simulations environments such as MATLAB, MATHEMATICA, MAPLE, and C/C++ is required
The recruited ESR will work in close collaboration with the other academic partners of the project:
- Universidad Polytecnica de Catalunya
- The University of Edinburg
- University of Trento
- Telecommunications Technological Centre of Catalonia
and with the possibility of collaboration with researchers from the industry:
- WEST Aquila, Italy
- Acticom, Germany
- EADS, France
- Innoroute, Germany
Marie Curie ITNs provide competitive financial support to the ESR including:
- a competitive monthly living and mobility allowance,
- a yearly travel allowance (i.e., a fixed amount of money based upon the direct distance between the location of origin of the researcher and Spain),
- a career exploratory allowance (i.e., a single payment for attending job interviews, additional courses, job fairs, etc.), and
- coverage of the expenses related to the participation of the ESR in research and training activities (contribution to research-related costs, meetings, conference attendance, training actions, etc.).
