Qualification required

University degree in Electronics or Electrical engineering or equivalent.

Experience and knowledge

* Good knowledge and/or a first experience in power electronics or electrical engineering.

* Knowledge or experience in one or more of the following fields will be considered an advantage:

* Power converter technology and associated semiconductors;

* Measurement techniques and analog electronics;

* Latest tools used for the design and simulation of electronic circuits (for example PSPICE, SABER, SIMPLORER,MATLAB, etc);

* Analog and digital feedback control systems.

* Good communication skills and ability to work in an international multidisciplinary team.

* Good knowledge of either English or French; basic knowledge of the other language or an undertaking to acquire it rapidly.

Abstract:

CERN accelerators require continuous maintenance, adaptation to changing needs and day-to-day follow-up. The Electrical Power Converter Group (EPC) of the Technology Department (TE) is responsible for operating and maintaining the power converters for the whole CERN accelerator complex. The Group is also responsible for the design, production follow-up, testing, installation and operation of the power converters for the future CERN projects.

CERN is currently looking for an Engineer in Power Electronics

Functions

As a Power Electronics engineer, you will be a member of the team responsible for the design, maintenance and operation of the high-power converters at CERN. In particular, you will:

* Be responsible for the design of new high-power converters;

* Draw up technical specifications for the converters and ensure the follow-up of manufacturing and testing activities in the framework of industrial contracts;

* Be responsible for the commissioning, operation and maintenance of power converters in various accelerators at CERN in the power range 10kW-20MW;

* Develop new techniques of analog/digital control systems for high-power converters especially for the SPS main converter;

* Provide support as an expert in these fields to other members of the group;

* Depending on the needs, this function can include the supervision of a team of technicians.
