The assignment consists of lecturing duties, scientific research and service to society. During a period of (maximum) ten years, scientific research will be the main activity. the candidate is expected to expand the scientific research in the domain of complex genetics of brain diseases with a focus on neurodegenerative brain diseases such as Alzheimer disease. This research will need to closely align with the research program of the Neurodegenerative Brain Diseases group of VIB-DMG.
Description:
• the candidate is expected to maintain a network of national and international collaborations and to implement innovative techniques of genetic epidemiology in their own research.
• the candidate is expected to acquire external funding (local, national and international).
• the candidate is expected to offer limited scientific services such as scientific support in genetic epidemiology and biostatistics to other research groups at VIB – DMG and the university, participation in organization of the master study programs at the university, community outreach on scientific developments in the field of brain diseases and policy making in this area.
• the candidate will be assigned limited lecturing duties in Genetic Epidemiology in the master study programs at the University and is expected to supervise master and doctoral students.
The VIB-DMG is one of eight research departments of the VIB (http://www.vib.be/VIB/EN/). In VIB-DMG, approximately 100 scientists work in five research groups in the domain of complex neurological diseases of both central and peripheral nervous system (http://www.molgen.vib-ua.be/). The VIB-DMG has central service facilities for high-throughput genetic, genomic and cellular analyses. At the University, several supporting central facilities are available, amongst others for biomedical imaging (confocal microscopy, EM, MRI, microtomography), proteomics and for housing of animals
