The Institute for Medical Science & Technology (IMSaT) is currently inviting applicants for a three year PhD studentship
Description:
The Institute for Medical Science & Technology (IMSaT) is currently inviting applicants for a three year PhD studentship. IMSaT offers a unique opportunity for multi-disciplinary research and provides a stimulating environment. IMSaT houses GE’s first European Centre of Excellence for MRI guided Interventions and Surgery including 1.5T MRI surgical suite with C-arm Angio. It is fully equipped with all required facilities for interventional surgical research including the latest high-intensity focused ultrasound system ExAblate with body and conformal bone system and the MR Robot Innomotion.
The project
The FUSIMO project has been designed to develop, implement and validate a multi-level model of abdominal organs for MRI guided focused ultrasound therapy. The work will include modelling of moving organs during the breathing process and its effect on ultrasound treatment. Validation of the model will be carried out on soft embalmed human cadavers. Other research areas covered by the project will be tissue modelling and examination, ultrasound contrast micro-bubbles, cavitation effect and drug delivery. Another part of the project is related to the integration and implementation of an MR-compatible interventional robotic system. The details of the project can be found on website: http://www.imsat.org/FUSIMO.htm
The studentship is fully funded for 3 years with a stipend of £13,500. UK/EU only applicants are likely to be eligible for the funding associated with this project.
