Qualification required
PhD in Physics or Engineering. Experience and competencies
* At least 3 years’ practical experience in testing, installation, operation and maintenance of detector systems, in particular solid-state, in particle physics experimental setups;
* Good knowledge of physics processes, related to particle interaction with solid-state detectors and radiation-induced damages;
* Good knowledge of detector control systems and software tools;
* Practical experience with detector tests in fixed-target beam lines and basic knowledge of LHC beam instrumentation and machine operation aspects;
* Familiarity with CERN safety radiation protection rules;
* Experience with physics software packages like GEANT4 or FLUKA is an advantage;
* Good communication skills, both oral and written;
* Drive and initiative, with a strong team spirit;
* Good knowledge of English, basic knowledge of the French or an undertaking to acquire it.

Physicist or Engineer Functions
As an applied physicist or engineer within the PH-TOT group, you will operate and maintain the TOTEM Roman Pot detector systems, participate in the detector data analysis and contribute to the future upgrade activities on radiation-hard detectors. More specifically, you will:
* Operate the RP detectors and write associated technical documentation;
* Follow-up detector performance and optimize the operational parameters;
* Organise and coordinate technical meetings with representatives from different departments;
* Schedule and coordinate interventions during LHC technical stops and shut down periods, and supervise technical staff;
* Set up and coordinate test beam activities, test and validate new solid state detector components;
* Be involved in all aspects of radiation protection optimization, including taking responsibility for the role of the Radiation Safety Officer for the TOTEM experiment
