Abstract:

CEMEF studies the materials processings in all their aspects: physics, chemical physics, thermal and mechanical analysis and numerical modelling. Researches are on a large range of materials: metals, synthetic and bio polymers, food stuff, composites and nanocomposites, glass, ceramics…

Description:

The project aims at understanding the thermal and mechanical behaviour a polymer film during a forming process. The study will be carried out in scientific collaboration with an industrial partner whose research thematic has to do with innovating products. One of the elements used in this development is a film which is processed through thermoforming. This last process has guaranty dimension stability during and after de forming. The final purpose of this study is the control and the optimization of the forming process, taking into account the physical and mechanical parameters of the chosen material. The purpose of the post-doc project itself is to identify intrinsic characteristics of the behaviour of the polymer system. We will particularly focus on:
* the visco elastic thermo mechanical behaviour under multi axial solicitations, which controls the forming capability itself ;
* the dimensional stability, which strongly depends on the thermal shrinkage, the residual stress and the visco elasticity of the material.
At Cemef, multi axial tests in temperature on monotonic or non monotonic loadings are available. These tests should allow the measurement of visco elastic properties of the multi material system and also its evolution with the forming process steps. Moreover, dimensional stabilities will be analysed during thermal treatments as a function of the previous strains involved. This global knowledge will be summed up in the understanding of the formed system behaviour.
