ESR for Development of High-Speed Quantum Controllers

Organization: National Instruments Germany GmbH

Location: Munich, Germany

Field: Control engineering

Requirements:

We are seeking a candidate with a very strong background in numerical methods; ideally the candidate should hold a master degree in numerical mathematics or in computational physics. Background knowledge in quantum physics is requested.

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with excellent English communication skills. German language skills are welcome.

Abstract:

National Instruments seeks to appoint an Early Stage Researcher (ESR) for a PhD degree financed by the EU FP7-People Marie Curie Initial Training Network Circuit and Cavity Quantum Electrodynamics (CCQED). You will work in close collaboration with the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics (MPQ) in order to designing, simulating and implementing high-speed controllers for MPQ’s experiments on Cavity Quantum Electrodynamics.

Description:

Over the project period of four years, several cutting edge algorithms will have to be developed and implemented. In the early phases, these algorithms will address simulation tasks in the field of quantum optics. The project will leverage recent developments in high-performance computing systems (HPC) that combine CPUs, FPGAs and GPUs. Working knowledge in those topics is desirable.

In the later phases of the project the focus will shift to the development of high-speed quantum controllers and their implementations using FPGAs based on NI LabVIEW, NI LabVIEW Real Time, and NI LabVIEW FPGA.

The primary working place will be in Munich, Germany. Shorter assignments to Austin, TX and to our partner universities are required as well.

You will be an integrant part of ten research centers and three companies representing the cutting edge of research in the quantum electrodynamics of fundamental systems in Europe. The network received outstanding ranking and is committed to provide you with the best development of your career in academia or in the private sector. www.ccqed.eu

Marie Curie FP7-People ITN benefits:
Marie Curie Fellows will enjoy benefits of full social security, health insurance, pension, parental leave etc. Competitive monthly living and mobility allowance, yearly travel allowance, a career exploratory allowance, and coverage of the expenses related to your participation in research and training activities (contribution to research-related costs, meetings, conference attendance, training actions, etc.).
