The Drug Discovery Unit (DDU) (see http://www.drugdiscovery.dundee.ac.uk) is a fully integrated drug discovery operation based within a world class Life Sciences research environment.

Description:

The Drug Discovery Unit (DDU) (see http://www.drugdiscovery.dundee.ac.uk) is a fully integrated drug discovery operation based within a world class Life Sciences research environment. Its remit is to complement BioPharma activities by tackling both neglected diseases (trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis and malaria) and early stage small molecule validation of novel targets & mechanisms across a range of potential therapeutics areas. The DDU works to Biotech style philosophy and standards incorporating, dynamic, goal driven project management based on Target Product Profiles and Compound Selection Criteria. The project goals are therapeutic area dependent but range from quality leads demonstrating disease model proof of concept, through to pre-clinical candidates.

We are currently looking for a highly motivated biologist to be part of a BioPharma experienced, multi-disciplinary team in the DDU.
 
Your responsibilities:
• Developing, assessing and proposing credible molecular targets
• Providing high content imaging expertise to allow screening of intracellular parasites
• Playing leadership roles in program teams or cross-discipline workgroups
• Providing innovative ideas in the development of the unit’s capabilities
• Culturing parasites and human host cell lines
• Developing relevant cell based and biochemical assays
• Screening and profiling novel compounds
• Designing and performing detailed mechanism of action studies
• Carrying out data analysis and relevant quality assurance protocols
• Working collaboratively with members of the Drug Discovery Unit and academic or industrial collaborators to support drug discovery programs

Additional Information
The post is available for 12 months and salary will depend on experience. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in industry-style drug discovery within an academic setting.
